"Indian folk and didactic (moral) tales hold a unique place in the world. The sources of these folk-ethic stories are the immortal masterpieces of Sanskrit literature—Hitopadesha and Panchatantra. In the Panchatantra, its author Pandit Vishnu Sharma used various birds and animals as mediums to narrate moral stories, with the aim of making the princes experts in the art of politics. Those stories and the 'Suktis' (maxims/proverbs) found within them are undoubtedly useful for humanity in today's era of hustle and bustle. For young children, these stories provide entertainment and curiosity on one hand, and on the other, they help in shaping them into ethically sound, active humans, and enlightened citizens. These stories are equally useful and worth collecting not only for children but also for adults and the elderly."
